This page will be small for a while, as I’d rather add sources only when I know they’re legitimate, as opposed to just doing a web search and listing out all the providers I find.
buying elderberries
- Ulrich Young - Ulrich mainly sells to local wineries, but he also keeps a large store of frozen de-stemmed elderberries from his plot in Oklahoma, and can ship. I’ve personally ordered and received berries from him twice, which were packed carefully and arrived safely (and still very, very cold) within a few days. Ulrich can be reached by email at robcrkranch@hotmail.com.
- Herbalcom.com - I’ve ordered dried elderberries from them myself, and they arrived quickly and safely. Dried are great, and so easy to store for that day when you need them!
- Herbco.com - ships whole elderberries and elder flowers. Jessie from the comments section writes, “Their prices are reasonable and I have never had a problem with them.”
buying the whole plant
(Note that I haven’t ordered elderberry plants from anywhere yet, so those listed here are simply the providers that seem to be currently advertising their elderberry plants most widely, which gives me reason to think they are at least still in the business of selling them.)

Hmm,… I just re-checked my email, and that was the correct address… there’s no chance you accidentally copy-and-pasted and included the period, is there? If not I’d try it again, since it was only a month or two ago I last heard from him from that address. Good luck!

Have found a good site with reasonable prices for dried elderberries. Have not heard from Ulrich so don’t know what is going on there. Anyways, here is the new and very reaonably priced site which also sells herbs and lots of other things.

Why can’t I find frozen or fresh Elderberries anywhere? I have searched the websites posted and they are selling plants or extracts etc. I only want the berries to make pies, jam etc. Thanks

robcrkranch@hotmail.com is the only source I’ve found for real quantities of fresh/frozen elderberries.
I just received a reply from him and he should start harvesting this season’s crop in a few weeks.

I live in northern California and get my fresh berries from along the river banks. My mom made elderberry wine, cordials, syrups and marmalade, and as a child I rejected them but now I am a huge fan. My syrup and marmalade stay fresh for a very long time. I add cloves and or cinnamon, and a little orange peel for flavor. Your site is great!
11 Ulrich Young // Jul 26, 2008 at 5:47 pm
UPDATE. I will be harvesting starting this week. I will have some 1 gallon vacuum sealed bags of fresh frozen available starting next week, larger orders as picked. I can ship US priority mail and elderberries will arrive thawed , but cold and ready for use. 1 gallon with shipping is $27.95, 2 gallon is $48.95. The elderberries are destemmed and are ready for use in wines etc, for pies, a few small stems will have to be removed. My email address is robcrkranch@hotmail.com

13 Danny Thorpe // Jul 30, 2008 at 5:11 pm
Trevor, are you in California? I could certain send you some dead sticks, but I’m not sure about whether it’s legal to do that across state lines.

I have an elderberry bush in my yard with more berries than I know what to do with. Can I freeze them and if so how??
17 Earl Young // Aug 14, 2008 at 9:04 pm
Nourse Farms is a realy great place to purchase from.Good people.I grow about 60 elderberry bushes for my own use, pies mixed with blueberries, and wine mixed with grapes.
18 Earl Young // Aug 14, 2008 at 9:11 pm
Lisa yes you can freeze them.Just put them in a plastic bag and freeze them ,remove as much air from the bag as you possible. To thaw them just put them into the refrigerator for a day or so.
19 Dee Robertson // Aug 16, 2008 at 10:30 pm
I have the same thing this year. I’ve had the bush for 6 years and this is the first time I’ve had so many berries. When I was looking up things to do with them I found a Danish site that said they actually taste sweeter after the first frost or freezing for a few weeks. I was going to try freezing them like we do blueberries - in freezer bags with the air vaccuumed out. The blueberries are still yummy after two years in the freezer. The fruit seems similar (just much smaller) so I think it should work.

I am interested in getting frozen elderberries…less than a gallon more like a half would be better, as I don’t need that much. So, Kjell Nilsson and/or nunski. What is your email and how much is shipping and what kind of shipping and what payment is accepted?
29 Sherrie Gregory // Oct 29, 2008 at 7:58 pm
Kjell Nilsson …. you do not leave a contact address or number to get hold of you on your elderberries.
Thanks,
Sherrie
30 Amy // Oct 29, 2008 at 8:07 pm
I normally wouldn’t post the email addresses of anyone who leaves comments, but since I assume he’d want to be contacted if he’s willing to sell, I’ll break that rule just this once.
Kjell’s email address is: kjell@tds.net

I have elderberries (frozen) that are for sale. I have been interested in growing elderberries for their “healing” as well as their commmercial properties and have 2 acres of 4 year old shrubs. This year was my first harvest and it was very abundant. I am located in Missouri and can ship anywhere in the USA. I would sell one gallon of berries for $25.00 plus shipping and handling.

We have planted thousands of elderberries across Northeast Wisconsin. They are one of our favorite pioneer species to plant because they readily spread, and create wildlife food and habitat as well as creating windbreaks for further planting.
We have not enough staff, or resources to collect the berries on a large acreage, but we are preparing to buy a farm that will serve as a 55 acre conservation reserve, permaculture classroom, tree nursery, and eco-topia. We are looking for investors for the ultimate give back to the earth. We ask people to pre-pay a regal dinner for their grandchildren to be redeemed on their sixtieth birthday. The investors are nothing more than supporters of ECO-Tours, our not-for profit, reforestation and educational org.
The organic farms that will sustain farm income will be on just a few of the acres, and will produce more than enough food for guests.
How many frozen elderberries would you be interested in? A dozen trees produce about fifteen gallons or so of berries.

I am also interested in whether or not you can make pies from dried elderberries…Does anyone know where you can buy canned elderberries?
41 Deean Hicks // Mar 14, 2009 at 3:44 pm
I couldn’t find any elderberry plants to buy locally only ornamental ones, so In January my husband and I went into the local canyons and took some hardwood cuttings. I’ve never done this before and I am excited to plant them this spring and have my own plants. I’ve always gotten my berries from the canyons here in Utah. One of my favorite uses is to make syrup for pancakes or whatever. Any help on planting the hardwood cuttings would be appreciated.

I am trying to find fresh (non-dried and non-frozen) elder berries. I am in California. If anyone can help I would appreciate it. Thanks.
45 Harold Evans // Jan 10, 2010 at 11:44 pm
I would like to suggest Florida Herb House and SharpWebLabs as a great place to buy organic freeze dried elderberries, blueberries, bilberries, and others. I have cooked the best pies with their berry powders and freeze dried berries.
HE
46 Harold Evans // Jan 10, 2010 at 11:46 pm
I think my all time favorite powder is Elderberry Powder and for the dried berries its probably the blueberries or bilberries. I make my own mixed berry pies around the holidays and everyone thinks I should market them. Like no other!

I started growing elderberries last year with 3/4 acre and added four acres this spring. My farm is south of Kansas City. We planted Bob Gordon and Wildwood II varieties and plan to add varieties next year. I have just started harvesting my first berries and expect to get arounds a thousand pounds.
I am constructing a web site, http://www.elderberryhealth.com. The site will provide growing information as well as being use to sell my juice, cuttings and plants. Joe

I am going to plant some aronia and also elderberries. Around here the birds tend to eat them before I can locate the ripe ones.
I think these crops are going to be very important from now on.
Good luck and hope to hear how yours are doing and how much they market for.
Sherrie Gregory
